TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Intensely involved in teaching and education.  Since Jan 1998, when I was appointed as Instructor, I actively participate in teaching activities of the Orthopaedic Division (undergraduate & postgraduate), medical college and the hospital.

  • INNOVATIONS IN EDUCATION
    1. Summary of student evaluations, awards received for teaching;

    1. Innovation;
    • Formulated the AKU Metabolic Bone Disease Forum; it is a multi-disciplinary clinical forum with input from chemical pathology, radiology and rheumatology. It is a monthly meeting including case discussions and lectures.
    • Formulation of the Association of Metabolic Bone Research n Education Pakistan (AMBRE-PAK). This is again a multi-disciplinary national level association that will work towards achieving common goals.
    • Chairperson of the second annual meeting of the department of Surgery; ‘Surgical Innovations for the developing world’. Published a full manuscript publication of JPMA of all the Conf abstracts. More than 15 international and more than 70 national faculty members participated in the 2 day conference
    • Chairperson of the third Annual meeting, department of Surgery; ‘Surgical Oncology – evidence & Practise’. Published a full manuscript publication of IJS Short reports of Conf abstracts. More than 25 international and more than 60 national faculty members participated in the 2 day conference.
    • As chairperson of the OrthoCon 2021, successfully conducted more than 30 Webinars on different orthopedic issues in 2020.
    • As chairperson of the OrthoCon 2021, successfully completed a JPMA Conference supplement of about 25 manuscripts in 2020.
    • Conducted a series of nine workshops titled ‘manuscript writing workshops’ in different cities of Pakistan in 2019 n 2020.

  • As director of the internship program
    As director of the internship program

    • Organized the first ever AKU PGME MCQ retreat on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Arabian Sea Country Club.
    • Developed the first internship manual; copyrighted by Govt of Pakistan.
    • Developed a full one year curriculum for all interns at AKU, including didactic lectures, workshops and cognitive skills improvement.
    • Introduced interview skills workshop for PGME.

    As director of orthopedic residency program

    • Introduced the in-house annual self-assessment exam; no formal system existed till now.
    • Introduced regular Saturday skills workshops
    • Introduced regular journal clubs, video sessions and didactic faculty lectures
    • Piloted DOPS in the program for residents.
    • Introduced the term Academic Index; no of academic hours per week divided by the no of weeks; it was 6.36 hours/week in my tenure; the highest achieved so far.
